Keyword Meta Tag - The Meta Tag that holds your keywords (descriptive words about your business) Keyword - This is what people use to search for website at a search engine. Title - This term as it applies to a website is the title of you page. It it is what is found at the top of the browser windrow when someone loads your page. The title is also found in a bookmark when someone bookmarks your page. Search Engine - A search engine is a website that has special software to take a keyword, keywords or phase and find a relevant site. Search Engine Submission - Search Engine Submission is the process of notifying a search engine that you want your site listed. Every search engine is different as far as the appropriate methods if submission. Search Engine Software - Search Engine Submission Software is special software that will submit your site to the search engines. It must be used with care, as some engines do not react favorably to automated submissions. Hand Submission - This method of Submission is done by hand directly at the search engine's website. Major Search Engine - This is a word for the more popular search engines. FFA - This is a page that has many links to it. It is controversial as to whether this method is an effective method of advertising. Some people believe that submitting to FFA's can leave an unfavorable impression on some Search Engines. Ranking - Ranking as it applies to search engines means your position in rank if someone searches a particular keyword, keywords or phrase. Spider - A Spider as it applies to search engines is a robot, or software that crawls the web looking for pages to list in its search engine. Some Spiders have unique names. For instance, Google's spider is named Googlebot. And AltaVista's Spider is named Scooter. For a list of spider names and the search engines that they belong to you may go here: Stats - The term Stats as it applies to web design means a system that gathers statistical information about your websites visitiors. Website Maintenance - This term refers to changes and updates made to your website. Multimedia - The term Multimedia refers to an interactive environment rich in many medias such as graphics, sound, and animation. E commerce - E commerce refers to a shopping enabled website. Merchant Account - A special bank account which allows your customers to purchase with a credit card. Check software - Special software that will print check and allow phone checks, online checks and fax checks. Shopping Cart - Special software that allows for more then one product to be purchased during a "shopping session" this allows for your customer to go pack to your site and continue shopping. POP3 (e mail) - A type of e mail that can interface with e mail programs such as "Eudora" and "Outlook Express" . It stands for "Post Office Protocol version 3". Internet Glossary |
