Website Basics

Need Help Getting Started? Here is some info to help you understand what is involved in Website Design.

Website Plan

First you need a website plan. You need to know what purpose your website will serve. Websites can serve the following purposes:

To give information, to promote your business, to teach, to gather information about your market/visitors, to sell products and/or services.

So the first step in getting ready to have a website is to identify your market, their needs, and how you would like to serve them.

Bumble Bee Studio has a Website Planning Form to submit to us so that we can help you plan your website: Website Planning Form

Website Domain name

Your website domain name is the name that visitors type in your address bar to get to your website. When you type in a domain name in a web browser, you are "calling up" the computer that the website is "hosted" on. A domain name is registered by you or your website designer on your behalf at a Registrar. Your Registrar is the company that sells you the domain name. We can secure your domain name for you or you can get one yourself at a domain name store like Godaddy.com

You will need to tell your Registrar what website your domain name goes to. This is called website pointing. You point a website by giving your Registrar the domain name servers of your hosting company. Bumble Bee Studio's domain name servers are
ns.buzzstudio.com and ns2.buzzstudio.com

Website Hosting

Website Hosting is the service that provides the computers where your website is stored. Bumble Bee Studio's Hosting comes with extras like email and webstats. Do not secure your hosting until you have your website plan in order and/or you have consulted with a professional website designer. You will need to know what technologies are needed and what host is compatible with those technologies.

Website Design

Website Design is the layout, navigation, and graphics of your website. This is the look and feel of your website. Website design is composed of HTML coding, graphics such as jpegs and gif, as well as special programming languages in some cases.

These are the basics of web design and what you need to do to get started. You may also wish to consult our Internet Glossary.

We hope that we have answered your questions concerning website basics and how to get started. If you have any questions please contact us.
